ABOUT NCC NAVY

The only technically serving Naval NCC Unit, The 4[TN] Naval Tech Unit of NCC NAVY was started in the year 1964 at College of Engineering, Guindy. Besides providing excellent learning of drill, discipline, character and leadership qualities, a strong vision of service in the minds of cadets towards involving themselves in various activities like blood donation, awareness rallies, Swachh Bharath, tree plantation and coastal cleaning.

HALOWINGS

Halo Wings – A ray of hope, was pioneered in the year 2016 by a top notch batch of NCC NAVY CEG. It is a marathon conducted annually with the motive of raising funds and creating awareness for sensitive rare disorders.

OUR PREVIOUS EDITION

The inaugural edition of the Halowings was an 8km run intended in assisting “Down Syndrome” and the second edition of Halowings aspired to create awareness and raise funds for “Dyslexia” and the third edition was dedicated to support the “Lysosomal Storage disorder”. Our previous year’s cadet team highlighted the will and grit of people with “Multiple Disability Disorder and Haemophilia” and raised awareness and funds for the widely unspoken disorder.

Upcoming year our cadet team decided to support “Polycystic Ovary Syndrome” and the rare disease “Cystinosis” by the awareness run in association with SAPIENS HEALTH FOUNDATION.

ABOUT DISEASE – CYSTINOSIS AND PCOS

Cystinosis is a rare genetic, metabolic disorder caused by accumulation of amino acid cystine within the cells. The cystine crystals accumulate in the lysosome of the cells leading to cell death. Cystine gets deposited in all the organs, kidneys and the eyes get affected the most.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects a woman’s hormone levels. Women with PCOS produce higher-than-normal amounts of male hormones. This hormone imbalance causes them to skip menstrual periods and makes it harder for them to get pregnant.

Terms & Conditions

The participants are asked to arrive the venue by 5.00 am. The marathon will be started by 5.30 am depending upon the forecast condition. The participants must compulsorily worn the Halo wings 2020 T-shirt and bib chest sheet. The bib sheet is personal and non transferable. The finishers will get a certificates and medals after the marathon. Refreshments will be provided. First aid stations will be located along the routes. Medical assistance will be available to injured participants. An ambulance service will also be available.
