The Kotak Wheelchair Marathon 2017 - Open to all runners

Run With Us on September 3, 2017, along Besant Nagar Beach

Empower persons paralysed neck down due to Spinal Cord Injury

Getting persons without any disability to run alongside persons with disability and serve as an example of inclusion is the goal of The Kotak Wheelchair Marathon. This event is part of World Spinal Cord Injury Day that is marked on September 5.

Surplus from the 2017 event will be used to empower persons who are paralysed neck down due to a spinal cord injury.

Our vision is that each of them must aspire to live as actively as Justin Jesudas, International Paralympic Swimmer & Rifle Shooter, Associate Director at  Cognizant, Race Director for The Kotak Wheelchair Marathon 2017 and a person who was paralysed at the neck level in a road accident eight years ago.

By running with us, you will also be supporting India’s first and only marathon that is organised by persons with disability for one and all.

Distance: Half Marathon (21.1 km's), 10 km's and 5 km's

Start & Finish Area: The event will start and finish at Olcott Memorial Higher Secondary School, No.2, (Old No.28) Besant Avenue, Besant Nagar, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600090.

  • 10 Kms: 5.30 AM

The Kotak Wheelchair Marathon is organised by The Spinal Foundation, the Pan-India self-help group for persons with Spinal Cord Injury.

The impact of Neck-Down Paralysis: If a person sustains a neck-level (cervical) Spinal Cord Injury, he or she may lose the ability to walk, use hands, fingers, bladder control, temperature management, bowel control and sexual ability, to name a few. Many struggles to find a job due to the intensity of physical challenges. Many a time, the education of children of such persons tends to suffer. The extent of support such persons need is extensive.
