Urban Tryst Cyclothon:
Valentine's day can be much more than flowers, cakes or obsessing over romance. If you are looking for a way to spread the spirit of love this Valentine's day and International Random acts of kindness week (Feb 9 – 15), here’s an opportunity. “Pay it Forward” by participating in a cycle rally organized by Urban Tryst, a personalized matchmaking services company, and pedaling your way to a cleaner community, in continuation with Prime Minister Modi's vision for a Swach Bharat.
Start cycling from Lighthouse, Marina Beach at the crack of dawn and make your way over to the rest of Chennai for a fun and novel way to begin your valentine’s day. Some delicious gourmet food from Lloyds Tea House and certificate of participation awaits you at the finish line.
The entire proceeds of this event will be donated to The Rotary Club of Madras in support of their Open Defecation Free Project. This project is aimed at not just building toilets around the state, but more importantly to educate people about the importance of using these toilets instead of using them as storage rooms (we kid you not!)
A pilot to create an open defecation free community was initiated at Amarampedu village, in Gummidipoondi, Thiruvallur District near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. 30 toilets have been completed, 50 more will be completed by March 2015. Each toilet costs Rs. 15000 (Fifteen Thousand).
